Danger of liposuction Post Operative Care

Liposuction, like any other surgical treatment, always comes with some risk. When liposuction is compared to other cosmetic surgery however, the procedure has the smallest amount risk due to the surgery being much less invasive.

Danger of liposuction : Is there any risk?

The procedure may have a small risk however there is more potential danger post-operation:

  1. Shock – If too much fat is extracted the body may go into shock as a reaction. This is extremely dangerous when under general anesthetic

  2. Scarring – With every surgery there is a risk of scarring and liposuction is no different. Scaring will be minimal depending on the quality of the surgeon and personal skin recovery.

  3. Lidocaine Allergy – there is no precise safe level of lidocaine which means that different people could have diverse reactions to it. Large doses can provoke violent allergies and in some cases the wrong amount can be fatal.

  4. Organ Perforation – if inexperienced, tired or less able surgeons perform the operation, potentially organs may be punctured due to carelessness/tiredness. This is very dangerous which is why it is so important to use reputable surgeons and perhaps have more shorter bouts of liposuction instead of one long session.

  5. Blood Clots – when surgery is performed over a long period of time, there is risk of blood pooling. Shorter operations rather than one long one is better for the body to recover.

  6. Hemodilution – very rare but can happen. This happens when injection of anesthetic into the fat layer is too much so using experienced surgeons reduces the risk.
