Cosmetic surgery’s most popular procedure is liposuction. These include abdomen liposuction and arm liposuction as the most common. According to the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, over one hundred thousand liposuction procedures are performed every year in the United States. Great results can be achieved from arm liposuction with very little scarring comprising only a few dots opposite the arm pit.
Arm Liposuction : The Operation
Tumescent liposuction is a common technique used in arm liposuction. The technique is cheaper and risks such as trauma and blood loss are reduced due to local anesthetic being injected into the section where the procedure is to be performed.
The tumescent solution increases the fatty compartment and numbs the site when injected into the fat tissue in order to perform the arm liposuction.
Arm Liposuction : Advantages and Disadvantages
The main advantage to arm liposuction is very little scarring due to the small hole inserted under the arm to take out the fat. However a disadvantage is that an excess of skin can be left over after the operation and a further operation to remove this may be merited.
Arm Liposuction : Arm Tuck
Arm liposuction can leave noticeable excess skin which, for the patient, can reduce their self esteem. A procedure called an arm tuck can follow the previous operation to correct this.
This is a very common procedure in plastic surgery and it involves an incision in the arm pit area being made then the excess skin is pulled up to the opening and the surplus skin is removed leaving a better looking arm. This is similar to an operation call brachioplasty which is a combination of arm liposuction and the elimination of the excess skin. This is only used in extreme cases of major weight loss.
Arm Liposuction : Recovery
Depending on the excess skin, and therefore possible arm tuck, recovery from arm liposuction will generally take three to six weeks.
