Liposuction
Body perfection in today’s society is becoming more widespread. People are striving for a flawless body with no fat, better skin and toned muscles. Exercise and a good diet are required in order to do this, however there is an alternative solution to free you from the persistent, obstinate fatty cells called Liposuction.
Should you be contemplating the procedure, or if you just want more information regarding liposuction, here are some details you should consider:
Liposuction: In Simple Terms
Liposuction is cosmetic surgery - fatty cells beneath the skin are removed by vacuum suction. The areas of the body most commonly operated upon are:
Abdomen
Thighs
Buttocks
Breasts
Knees
Arms
Back
Like most surgery there is a risk of damaging the body, therefore plastic surgeons recommend only patients within their normal weight range should be considered for the liposuction procedure.
Liposuction : The Operation
Whilst only a day long procedure, general anesthetic is still used due to the intrusive nature of the surgery. The procedure begins with the surgeon making an incision in the designated area then placing a surgical instrument under the skin. This is moved around to loosen the fat in order for suction removal to occur.
Following liposuction patients are prescribed antibiotics in order to keep infection at bay. An elastic garment in worn on the operated area for support and movement is kept minimal for a few months after this procedure. Stitches will take up to 10 days to either fall out or be removed and, as with all surgery, swelling and mild discomfort may occur during the recovery period.
Liposuction : Expense
Liposuction cannot simply be priced as a one off fee as there are many factors to be considered, these include surgical and non surgical fees. Surgical fees are all aspects involved with the operation such as the operation itself and the site and size of the patient. Non surgical fees are additional ‘hidden’ costs like nursing staff, pre op tests, supplies (or overheads) and the theatre itself. Due to this procedure being considered as “cosmetic”, health plans will generally not cover the payment of liposuction. A final total estimate of the whole procedure in writing is advised before hand.
Liposuction is, of course, a decision wholly for yourself. On consideration you must, however, remain realistic with your expectations as it can be easy to get carried away with the idea of having the ‘perfect’ body.
